How to Print From Canva: Export Settings a Print Shop Needs

The Canva download settings a print shop needs, why bleed has to be stretched by hand, what a free account means for color, and how to set up cards, flyers, posters, booklets and stickers.

To print from Canva, turn on print bleed under File, then Settings, then Show print bleed, and stretch every background out to the dashed line. Then download the design with Share, then Download, choosing PDF Print with Crop marks and bleed ticked. Pick the CMYK color profile if your plan offers it; a free account offers RGB only, which a printer can convert. Send that PDF to the print shop, not a PNG or a screenshot. Menu names were checked in October 2026.

The rest of this guide covers bleed and crop marks, color, photo resolution and Pantone colors, then the settings that matter for business cards, flyers, posters, booklets and stickers.

How do I export a print-ready PDF from Canva?

Use the PDF Print download with crop marks and bleed, after adding bleed to the design. In order:

  1. Turn on print bleed: File, then Settings, then Show print bleed. A dashed line appears around the page. Older versions call this menu View settings.
  2. Stretch every background color and edge-to-edge photo out to the dashed line.
  3. Keep text and logos at least 0.125 in inside the page edge; 0.25 in is safer.
  4. Open Share, then Download, and set File type to PDF Print.
  5. Tick Crop marks and bleed.
  6. Set Color profile to CMYK if your plan shows it. On a free account, leave it on RGB.
  7. Select all pages, then Download (or Pay and Download, if that is the button shown).

Canva's help center covers margins, bleed and crop marks and choosing a download file type. Menu labels change from time to time, so check there if a name on your screen differs from the ones above.

What are crop marks and bleed in Canva?

Bleed is the strip of background outside the finished size that is trimmed off after printing, and crop marks are the short lines at the corners that show where to cut. Canva's bleed is fixed at 0.125 in on each side and cannot be changed, which is the standard for cards, flyers and posters. If a job needs more than that, tell us and we will advise on the page size.

Show print bleed only draws the guide. Stretching the background out to it is up to you. If a background stops at the page edge, the PDF has no usable bleed even with Crop marks and bleed ticked, and the cut can leave a thin white edge.

How do I convert RGB to CMYK in Canva?

On a paid plan such as Canva Pro, choose CMYK under Color profile in the PDF Print download. A free account offers RGB only. That is no reason to upgrade for one job: a printer can convert an RGB file to CMYK, and our free file check flags RGB color so you see the result on a proof before anything prints.

The conversion matters most for bright saturated blues, vivid greens and neon oranges, which ink on paper cannot reproduce as brightly as a screen shows them. Converting the file yourself lets you see the shift and adjust before you order. Our guide to why printed colors look different from your screen explains the reasons.

What is 300 DPI in Canva?

300 DPI means 300 pixels of image for every inch of print, and it applies to the photos you upload, not to the download setting. No export option can add detail to a small photo. A full-bleed photo on a business card needs about 1,125 x 675 pixels, and on an 8.5 x 11 in flyer about 2,625 x 3,375 pixels, counting the bleed.

Photos saved from websites, sent through messaging apps or taken as screenshots are usually far smaller than the original. Upload the original file. Large format is the exception: a banner read from across a room can work at 100 to 150 DPI at its final size.

Can I use Pantone colors in Canva?

Not as a separate spot ink. The PDF Print download offers an RGB or a CMYK color profile and no spot color option, so a Pantone shade in a Canva design prints as a mix of process inks. That is close enough for most flyers and posters.

When a brand color has to match across a card, a banner and a storefront decal, give us the Pantone number, ask for the CMYK values that come closest, and request a hard copy proof on the actual stock. A true spot color job is usually built in design software that supports spot inks, such as Adobe Illustrator or InDesign, and design help is available if you need it.

How do I print business cards, flyers and other products from Canva?

Start each design at the finished size rather than a template size that is close. The table shows the finished size and the full page size including bleed for common pieces.

Business cards

Put the front on page 1 and the back on page 2 of the same design, so both sides travel in one PDF. A thin border close to the edge shows any small shift in the cut, so leave it off or keep it well inside the trim. Business card orders start at 250 cards, and our business card stocks guide covers paper and finishes.

Flyers and postcards

Check the page size before you design, because many free templates default to A4 rather than US letter. A two-sided flyer or postcard goes as a two-page PDF, front first. If a postcard will be mailed, keep the address side plain and ask about mailing when you request the quote.

Posters and banners

Design at the finished size, or at an exact scale of it with the same proportions, and state the final size in the order. Check every photo against the final size, not the size on screen. For a banner that will be hemmed or fitted with grommets, keep text well clear of the edges.

Booklets, programs and menus

Lay the pages out in reading order, one page per page, from the front cover to the back cover. Do not arrange them as printer spreads; the printer places the pages onto sheets. A saddle-stitched booklet needs a page count divisible by four, so add a notes page or a blank if you come up short. Our booklet binding guide compares the options.

Stickers and labels

For rectangles and circles, a PDF Print file at the sticker's size with bleed is enough. A die-cut shape also needs a cut line, a closed path around the design. Tell us the shape you want; if the file has no cut line, it can be drawn during the free file check. Our guide to die-cut vs kiss-cut stickers covers borders and bleed for shaped stickers.

Can I print directly from Canva?

Yes. The PDF Print file prints on any printer, and a print shop or copy center can print it on the size and paper you choose. Most home and office printers cannot print to the very edge of the sheet, so a design with a full-bleed background needs a printer that prints oversize and trims, which is what the bleed and crop marks are for.

A common Canva file problem: the design has print bleed switched on and Crop marks and bleed ticked, yet the background still stops at the trim line, because nobody stretched it out to the dashed guide. The PDF looks fine on screen, and the cut leaves a white hairline on some cards in the stack. Before you download, zoom in on each corner and check that the color reaches the dashed line.

Printing from Canva: common questions

How do I export a print-ready PDF from Canva?

Turn on Show print bleed under File, then Settings, and stretch backgrounds to the dashed line. Then choose Share, then Download, select PDF Print, tick Crop marks and bleed, and choose CMYK if your plan offers it.

Can you add bleed in Canva?

Yes. Use File, then Settings, then Show print bleed. The bleed is fixed at 0.125 in on each side, which is the usual standard.

Can I print Canva designs from a free account?

Yes. A free account downloads PDF Print in RGB, and the printer converts it to CMYK. Ask for a proof if the color matters.

Can I use Pantone colors in Canva?

Not as spot inks. PDF Print offers RGB or CMYK, so a Pantone shade prints as a process color mix. For an exact match, give the printer the Pantone number and ask for a hard copy proof.

Can a print shop print my Canva business cards?

Yes. Send the PDF Print file with crop marks and bleed. Business card orders start at 250 cards, and every file gets a free check for low-resolution images, missing bleed and RGB color.

When your PDF is ready, see our flyer, brochure and poster printing and upload the file on the contact page, up to 200MB per file, for a free quote. Our guide to print-ready files covers the same checks for files made in other programs, and design help is available if you would rather we finish the file.
