New York construction still runs on paper. Plans get marked up on site, filed with agencies, and handed to trades who are not going to squint at a phone in a stairwell.
Standard sheet sizes
- 18 x 24 (ARCH C): small residential and single-discipline sets.
- 24 x 36 (ARCH D): the most common working size.
- 30 x 42 (ARCH E1): larger commercial sets.
- 36 x 48 (ARCH E): full commercial and institutional drawings.
Send the whole set as a single multi-page PDF at the correct sheet size rather than individual files at mixed scales. If the PDF was exported at a different size than the title block assumes, tell us, because scaling a drawing silently is how dimensions stop being trustworthy.
Media
- Bond: standard opaque paper for working sets and field copies. Most jobs.
- Vellum: translucent, takes pencil, used for overlays and archival.
- Mylar: dimensionally stable polyester film, for record drawings that must not shrink or stretch.
Filing sets
Department of Buildings filings need multiple identical sets, typically with professional seals and signatures. Requirements vary by filing type and change periodically, so confirm current requirements with your expeditor and tell us the count and the size.
We can fold sets to standard filing folds or supply them rolled, and bind and tab them where the submission calls for it.
Colored linework and screened backgrounds that read clearly on a monitor frequently disappear on a black line plot. If your set relies on color to distinguish disciplines or phases, say so and order color plots. Discovering it after a set has gone to a field crew is expensive.
Same-day plotting
Files in early enough get plotted the same day, and delivery is free anywhere in Manhattan, including directly to a site trailer or an expeditor's office. Tell us the filing appointment time and we will work backward from it.
Site signage while you are at it
Required site safety notices, permit display boards, and scaffolding and sidewalk shed graphics all come from the same department. If your storefront is behind a shed for six months, that hoarding is the largest advertising surface you will ever have. See large format and technical printing.
