How Much Do Canvas Prints Cost? Sizes, Wrap Depth and Care (2026)

A gallery-wrapped canvas typically costs about $90 to $130 at 16 x 20 in and $185 to $250 at 24 x 36 in. Sizes, wrap depth, edge styles, photo resolution and care.

A gallery-wrapped canvas print typically costs about $45 to $90 at 8 x 10 in, $90 to $130 at 16 x 20 in and $185 to $250 at 24 x 36 in, at list prices from online photo labs and canvas printers checked October 2026. Size drives most of the price. Wrap depth, the edge style, the grade of canvas and framing account for most of the rest.

This guide covers the common canvas print sizes, the difference between a 0.75 in and a 1.5 in wrap, how large a photo file needs to be, and how to look after a canvas once it is on the wall. Big Apple Press produces gallery-wrapped canvas prints of photographs and artwork, with free delivery anywhere in Manhattan.

Prices shown are typical market prices for standard options, based on published prices from national print retailers and online printers, checked October 2026. They are a guide, not a quote. Prices are subject to change and do change with quantity, paper, finishing and turnaround, so contact us for an updated quote.

These ranges are based on list prices published by online photo labs and canvas printers such as CanvasPop, Nations Photo Lab, Mpix, Printique and 4over4, including CanvasPop's canvas price list and Printique's price list. Several of these sites were running sales when we checked, so the ranges use the regular list price, not the sale price. They cover one canvas with a 0.75 to 1.5 in wrap and exclude shipping and tax. Some economy online lines list prices well below these ranges, so compare the frame depth, the edge and the coating before you compare the number.

What changes the price of a canvas print?

  • Size: the amount of canvas and the length of the wooden frame both grow with every inch.
  • Wrap depth: a 1.5 in frame can cost more than a 0.75 in one at small sizes. At Nations Photo Lab, the 1.5 in classic canvas listed about $15 more than the 0.75 in version at 8 x 10 in, and the same price at 16 x 20 in.
  • Canvas grade and coating: the same lab listed its premium 1.5 in canvas about $19 above its classic 1.5 in canvas at 16 x 20 in.
  • Framing: a floater frame around the canvas is an extra item with its own price.
  • Several copies: ask for a price on more than one print of the same image, since the file is prepared once.
  • Delivery: online prices exclude shipping, and a large canvas ships in a large box. Delivery anywhere in Manhattan is free from us.

What sizes do canvas prints come in?

Choose a canvas size with the same shape as your photo, or expect part of the picture to be cropped. Most cameras shoot in a 3:2 shape and most phones in 4:3, and neither matches 8 x 10 or 16 x 20 in exactly.

4:312 x 16, 18 x 24, 30 x 40 inMost phone cameras in their default mode

1:112 x 12, 20 x 20 inSquare crops and album artwork

What is the difference between a 0.75 in and a 1.5 in canvas wrap?

Wrap depth is how far the wooden stretcher frame holds the canvas off the wall. A 0.75 in wrap is slim and sits close to the wall, which suits small pieces and canvases that will go inside a frame. A 1.5 in gallery wrap stands further out and looks finished with no frame at all, which suits larger pieces hung on their own.

Image wrap, mirror edge or color edge?

  • Image wrap: the photo continues round the sides of the frame. It looks continuous, but the outer strip of the picture ends up on the sides, about 1.5 in of every edge on a 1.5 in frame.
  • Mirror edge: the outer strip of the photo is reflected onto the sides, so nothing on the front is lost. A good choice when a face, a signature or text sits near the edge.
  • Color edge: the sides are a solid color, usually black or white. It reads as clean and modern and keeps the whole picture on the front.

What resolution does a photo need for a canvas print?

Aim for about 150 pixels per inch at the final size, including the part that wraps round the frame. Canvas texture hides a little softness, and large pieces are seen from across a room, so 100 to 150 pixels per inch is the working range for large format. Below that, edges and text start to look soft.

Pixels needed at 150 pixels per inch, with 1.5 in added on every side for the wrap
Canvas sizePrint area with wrapPixels needed
8 x 10 in11 x 13 in1,650 x 1,950
11 x 14 in14 x 17 in2,100 x 2,550
16 x 20 in19 x 23 in2,850 x 3,450
24 x 36 in27 x 39 in4,050 x 5,850

A 12 megapixel phone photo is about 4,000 x 3,000 pixels, which covers a print area of about 20 x 26 in at 150 pixels per inch. That is enough for a 16 x 20 in canvas with a wrap. Send the original file from the phone's photo library, not a screenshot or a copy saved from a messaging app, since both are reduced in size. Every file sent to us gets a free check for low-resolution images before anything prints, and our print-ready files guide explains resolution in more detail.

How do I care for a canvas print?

Dust a canvas with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of direct sun and steam. Canvas makers such as Nations Photo Lab advise wiping marks with a damp cloth and using no cleaning sprays or soap.

  • Hang it away from direct sunlight, radiators, and the steam of a bathroom or kitchen.
  • Do not lean anything against the face of the canvas, and store it upright with the face protected.
  • Use a wall fixing rated for the weight. A 24 x 36 in canvas on a 1.5 in frame is heavier than it looks.
  • If the canvas is dented by a knock, ask the maker before trying to fix it yourself.

The most common canvas disappointment is a picture that lost its edges. On a 1.5 in image wrap, about 1.5 in of every side of the photo folds round the frame, so a cropped forehead, a signature in the corner or a horizon near the bottom ends up on the side. Before you order, draw a box 1.5 in inside the edge of the photo at final size. Anything important has to sit inside that box, or choose a mirror or color edge instead.
