Litigation print is a volume and deadline business. The documents are rarely beautiful, but they have to be right, they have to be on time, and they usually have to be confidential.
Blowbacks and production sets
Converting electronic discovery back to paper at volume. The considerations are collation accuracy, consistent Bates numbering, and turnaround. Sets can be produced single or double sided, stapled, binder-clipped, drilled or bound, and split by custodian or date range.
Bates numbering
Sequential numbering applied to every page in a production, usually with a prefix identifying the producing party. Get the starting number and the prefix format right at the outset, because renumbering a production after the fact is painful. Confidentiality and privilege legends can be applied in the same pass.
Appellate briefs
New York appellate courts have formatting requirements covering page size, binding, cover color and content ordering, and they differ by department. Tell us which court you are filing in and we will produce to that specification. Getting a brief rejected on format after a deadline is an avoidable disaster.
Trial and deposition exhibits
Exhibit boards are mounted on foam board or gator board, typically 24x36 or 30x40. The single most common mistake is designing for a screen rather than a courtroom.
- Size text for the back of the jury box, not for the person holding the file.
- High contrast. Courtroom lighting is unflattering and inconsistent.
- One idea per board. A board doing three jobs does none.
- Number the boards on the back, not the front.
- Bring more easels than you think you need.
Deposition exhibits are usually tabbed and collated sets produced on short notice. Send the exhibit list with the files and we will collate to it.
Tabs, binders and closing sets
